Autism Evaluations

What is Autism?

Autism Spectrum Disorder (often called Autism or ASD) is a condition that impacts social and communication skills, as well as repetitive behaviors and fixed interests.

The symptoms and their severity from mild to severe can vary widely, hence the term "spectrum"!

Individuals with ASD may have unique strengths and challenges, and the condition can be associated with sensory sensitivities, unique learning styles, and distinctive ways of processing information.

Early diagnosis and intervention, along with tailored support, can significantly improve the quality of life for those with autism and their families.

What is it Like to Have Autism?

People with autism often experience their world differently, and experiencing autism can vary widely from person to person.

Many people with autism may feel overwhelmed by sensory stimuli such as lights, sounds, or textures which may feel overwhelming or distracting. It may be difficult to interact socially with others, and individuals may find it challenging to navigate social dynamics.

Communication may also be difficult, whether in expressing oneself verbally or understanding non-literal language like sarcasm. Routine and predictability often provide comfort, while unexpected changes can be very stressful.

Despite these challenges, individuals with autism often have unique strengths, such as strong attention to detail, deep focus, and a different way of thinking that can offer fresh perspectives!

We Treat Autism Holistically

Treating autism involves a comprehensive approach that goes beyond traditional medical interventions. Rather than focusing solely on symptom management with medications, holistic care at Philly Psych Solutions considers the individual's overall well-being, including physical, emotional, and social needs. Emphasis is placed on personalized treatment plans that respect the unique strengths and challenges of each person with autism.  Additionally, holistic practices often incorporate alternative therapies like mindfulness, yoga, and nutritional counseling to promote overall health and enhance quality of life.

What is an autism evaluation?

An autism evaluation typically involves a series of assessments to understand how a person interacts, communicates, and behaves. It includes interviews with parents or caregivers, or for adults, partners or friends. It is also necessary to use observations and standardized tests to determine a diagnosis of autism.

02

How will I be treated?

People with autism can be supported through various methods tailored to their individual needs. Therapy, such as behavioral therapy, speech therapy, and occupational therapy helps to develop social skills and communication abilities. Mindfulness practices can aid in managing sensory sensitivities and promoting emotional regulation. Medications may be prescribed to manage specific symptoms like anxiety or hyperactivity, and nutrition and dietary adjustments can play a role in supporting overall health and addressing any sensitivities or digestive issues.

03

What can my evaluation be used for?

This evaluation is a brief and focused assessment to determine whether autism spectrum disorder is present. This evaluation may be used for individuals who are looking to identify a specific diagnosis for specialized treatment. Because this is not a full psychiatric evaluation, recommendations and treatment for other conditions may be limited.

04

How much does it cost?

- Autism spectrum disorder diagnostic evaluation for adults: $2000

-Autism spectrum disorder diagnostic evaluation for children and adolescents: $2250

-Hourly rate applies for sessions extending beyond 4 hours ($350/hour)
